District Governor's Message

Dear District 31L,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter for those that celebrate, and you are enjoying the Spring weather and the beauty of trees and flowers blooming. I do empathize with those that suffer from allergies.

As we are winding down this Lions’ year and as a reminder, please sell your Camp Dogwood tickets, submit your LCIF donations, Brighter Vision donations, and Governor’s Goals. Each donation is very much appreciated. Also ensure that all service hours are entered online. If you have issues or need help, please contact Lion Tammy Thomas, as she has offered to help many times.

I hope to see many of you at the NC Lions State Convention as we are celebrating 100 years. The Peace Poster and Celebrate Liberty state winners, both from District 31L, will be attending with their families. I am very honored to be able to present their awards during the Friday evening festivities.

Kindest regards,
District Governor Susan

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)

As we move into the last quarter of our Lions year I want to say Thank you. Thank you to those that have donated this year to LCIF. We are still behind on where we need to be. Please consider giving something if you can. Currently 15 of 47 clubs have donated $4908.42. Our District is falling short $16,901 of our goal set by LCI.

There are many Lions who ask why should I donate to LCIF. So I asked Google…. Why should I donate to LCIF?

Googles answer…

With 100% of donations going towards grants and programs, LCIF empowers the compassionate service of Lions and those who need our help. Although those benefitting from your support may never know of your generosity, Lions Clubs International Foundation and our beneficiaries are grateful for your support.

Please consider donating today.

Respectfully submitted:
Lion Tammy Thomas
District LCIF Coordinator

LCI is Evolving Our Digital Tools

Dear Lions and Leos,

Preparation is underway to begin rolling out the new Lion Portal. Here is some important information to prepare you for launch.

Phased rollout for Lion Account Users

Our target launch window is April 15 – May 13*. During this time, all current Lion Account users will receive an email inviting them to access the new Lion Portal**. We’re doing this phased rollout to ensure staff are available to provide the best support possible and offer you a positive introductory experience.

Now - April 11: MyLion, MyLCI and Insights will continue to function as normal.

April 12 and beyond: MyLion, MyLCI and Insights are no longer available.

April 15 - May 13: Invitations to access the new Lion Portal sent via email on a rolling basis to existing Lion Account users. Please note: User permissions will not change. In other words, those who can report service, access member data and other key functions remains the same.

May 13 and beyond: All visitors attempting to access the previous digi-tal tools will be automatically redirected to the new Lion Portal.

*Dates are subject to change. Our number one goal is to create a posi-tive experience for Lions and Leos. If determined more time is required to ensure the product is in an optimal state, the dates may be adjusted accordingly.

**If you don’t see the email in your everyday inbox, please check all spam and junk folders for it first before contacting Member Support.

Note that the new Lion Portal will require a unique, unshared email, and phone numbers will no longer be supported as a log in credential.
Information and resources

Be sure to visit lionsclubs.org/portal-updates for the latest information and resources, which includes handy how-to videos for help accessing the new portal once you’ve received your Lion Portal invitation email.

We appreciate your support and thank you for your continued service as we prepare for the new Lion Portal – together.

News from your District Secretary Tammy Thomas

Please see below for excerpts I have taken from emails received concerning upcoming Voting / Delegates.

Club presidents and secretaries, you many now review your club’s information in MyLci to see if their club is in “Good Standing” in order to vote.

LCI will also need time to process any late payments before the Certified List is finally updated by the financial cut-off time which is midnight on April 11th.

Who qualifies as an eligible voter?

You may already be aware of this but I am recapping for those who may not be. The guidelines have been tightened for the number of “eligible” voters a club is allowed based on their membership count.

Prior to the International Convention in Boston in 2023, clubs were using the old familiar formula which allowed 1 delegate and 1 alternate for each 10 members or major fraction thereof. The new and reduced allowances now take into account the number of “Family Units” within a club. A Family Unit is defined as Lions living in the same household. It does not include a having Lion relative living
elsewhere.

What this means under the new guidelines is that the head of household is the full dues paying member and therefore they are included in the club’s total number of eligible voters. The half dues paying members are not included in the club’s total number of eligible voters. However, half dues paying members can still be a delegate or alternate.

With that decision being made by Lions International, Cabinet Secretaries must be diligent in confirming the true number of eligible voters per club by doing some homework before we ask clubs for their delegates and alternates.

As always if you have any questions please reach out.

Tammy Thomas
District Secretary

Good Day Lions!

I have had the pleasure of presenting some Chevrons at some clubs for long term service and nothing makes me more proud than presenting a lion with a 25 or 30-year chevron to a Lion. That means that they have been a devoted Lion serving for decades! With all of the experience and wisdom that entails we should be learn-ing from these lions! At the same time, though, we have to change and adapt to capture the next generation of Lions that will hopefully one day be presented with these 30-year chevrons. My hope is that each club is looking for the next generation to pass on your wisdom. Don’t let all of the years that you have put into your club just die out! Look for the young ones to pass on your wis-dom to and take their ideas into your clubs and adapt. If we don’t adapt soon, we may not have many clubs left. The saddest thing I hear is when a club folds. Through Mission 1.5 let’s try to keep these clubs alive!

Club visits are my favorite part of the training so far. I have enjoyed meeting all of the club members so far and have been very well re-ceived by all clubs. Thank you from the Bottom of my Heart!

Thank you all for all you do in Lionism!

International President Dr. Patti Hill's Theme: "Changing the World"

Dr. Patti Hill Lions International President

There’s an old saying – It’s the journey, not the destination. Changing the world is a journey. There’s no middle and no end. There is, however, a beginning.

Changing the World Change doesn’t happen all at once. It happens through many small choices. With every act of kindness, we change a life. With every Lions club and Leo club, we change a community. When we change our communities, we change the world.

With every small act of service, you contribute one step towards change. It’s up to each of us to simply begin. Like rain filling a bucket, we can change the world one drop at a time. In fact, we are all changing the world with every decision we make. Truly meaningful changes will occur when we are intentional about the kind of changes we want to make. When we strive to make positive changes—in our lives and in the lives of others—we put good into the world.

Lions have been doing our part to change the world for more than 100 years. In every project we do, with every donation we make, we contribute to positive change in our communities. As we fill our own buckets, our communities rise with us.

We are all connected. When we see that connection, boundaries and barriers disappear. We realize that while global challenges may seem daunting, there is always a place where we can begin. The place is here. The time is now.

Our world is a beautiful place. Let the rain fall. Drop by drop, fill your bucket. Help those around you fill theirs. Every day, in big ways and in small, let’s serve to make our world an even better place for all.

As a Lion for more than 32 years, International President Dr. Patti Hill has always brought out the very best in others. Her life and career have been defined by her passion for social justice, her dedication to helping others reach their full potential and her devotion to making the world a better place for all people.
