The Black Mountain Lions Club has always had a special mission to serve visually impaired people in their community by helping them obtain eye exams and eyeglasses. Club members sponsor the LEO Club at Charles D Owen High School, give a scholarship to a graduating LEO Club member annually, and to a graduating OHS senior every four years. The club participates in the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry’s “Adopt-a-Family” program and sponsors an annual food drive to collect donations of foodstuffs for a local food pantry. Erwin District Lions Club members provide scholarships for local high school seniors and are very involved with vision screenings in their local school district. Club members support the Leicester Community Center, Cedar Hill Baptist, Pine Ridge Reservation in their service to veterans, and families in need at West Buncombe Elementary School. The club’s fundraisers to support their community service activities include a car show held the first Saturday in June during which the club members serve barbeque with all the fixings. The Sand Hill Lions Club conducts a roadside litter cleanup every three months. The club is there to assist individuals and local families in need with their power bills, heating bills, medication, groceries, vision exams and glasses to name just a few of their services. With the assistance of Ingles Food Stores, club members keep their local high school pantry stocked. The club has contracts in place with 63 small business locations in their community to provide American flags. If you live in the Sand Hill community, this club will welcome you as a volunteer!

The Weaverville Lions Club give the manager of their local food store $200 a month to purchase food gift cards for families in need. Club members donate both food and money to the Barnardsville Food Pantry and the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry.
